When your child needs dental fillings, whether from an accident, decay, or natural imperfections, COCO Kids Dental provides a reliable, child-friendly solution. Our gentle approach to cosmetic and restorative dental fillings helps repair chipped teeth, restore cavities, and address discoloration while preserving your child’s natural tooth structure.

Using advanced composite bonding techniques, we carefully match the restoration to your child’s natural tooth color, creating beautiful results that boost their confidence and protect their oral health.

Understanding Pediatric Dental Fillings

At COCO Kids Dental, our doctor uses tooth-colored, bioactive and biocompatible composite resin specially formulated for children’s dental needs. During the procedure, this advanced composite material is carefully applied to repair chipped teeth, restore cavities, and improve the appearance of discolored areas.

The composite material is shaped and polished to match your child’s natural teeth, creating a seamless blend with their smile. This conservative approach to pediatric dental restoration allows us to preserve healthy tooth structure while effectively addressing common childhood dental concerns, from cavities and sports-related injuries to natural imperfections.

Benefits of Tooth-Colored Dental Fillings for Kids

Child-Friendly Experience

Composite bonding is well-suited for young patients because it requires minimal chair time, is minimally invasive, and involves little to no recovery time. Unlike more complex dental procedures, the filling process is straightforward and easy for children to understand. The quick treatment time helps reduce anxiety, and most kids remain comfortable throughout the procedure. This positive experience helps build their confidence in future dental visits.

Protection for Growing Teeth

Composite resin serves as a protective shield for developing teeth, especially during active growth years. The bioactive materials used in our office helps prevent further damage to chipped or cracked teeth while allowing natural dental development to continue. This protective quality is particularly valuable for children involved in sports or those with early signs of tooth wear.

Improved Oral Function

Beyond cosmetic improvements, composite filling helps restore proper tooth function in children. The treatment can repair bite issues caused by chipped teeth, make it easier to clean between teeth, and protect sensitive areas from discomfort caused by temperature changes, as well as sweet and sour foods and beverages. This enhanced functionality helps maintain proper eating habits and speech development during crucial growth years.

Safe for Developing Teeth

The conservative nature of the tooth filling materials we use preserves maximum natural tooth structure while providing effective repair. Our materials are bioactive and biocompatible and have been extensively tested for safety in pediatric dental applications, giving parents peace of mind about their child’s dental care.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does white filling last?

For children and teens, the tooth-colored filling typically maintains its strength and appearance for 4-8 years. The duration largely depends on your child’s oral habits, diet choices, and how well they maintain their dental care routine. Regular pediatric dental check-ups help us monitor the restored areas and catch any signs of wear early, and assess how well the filling is holding up as your child grows.

Is white filling covered by insurance?

Most pediatric dental insurance plans, including the Medi-Cal Dental Program, provide coverage for tooth-colored fillings when they are needed to repair structural damage or tooth decay in children. Coverage levels may vary based on the specific terms of your insurance plan.

Our pediatric dental team is happy to help you review your specific insurance benefits and go over all available payment options before beginning your child’s treatment.

You can book your child’s appointment by simply calling us at 661-561-8888 or by using our convenient online booking system.

Does a dental filling hurt?

As a pediatric-focused dental office, we understand how important it is for young patients to have a treatment experience that’s as gentle and stress-free as possible.

Our doctor has received advanced training in pediatric behavior guidance, anesthesia techniques, and pain management. We use gentle numbing methods and offer child-appropriate anesthesia options to support a more comfortable and smooth experience.

Many parents are pleasantly surprised by how quick and well-tolerated the process is for their children.

How long does dental filling procedure take?

The dental filling procedure typically takes less than half an hour. The exact timing depends on the type of repair needed and how many fillings are being done. Small chips and superficial cavities might take less time, while treating multiple teeth or restored deeper caries may require a bit longer. We schedule appointments with extra time so we can work at a pace that helps your child stay relaxed and comfortable.

Can dental bonding be whitened?

Unlike natural teeth, composite resin does not respond to whitening and maintains its original shade. In general, we do not recommend whitening baby teeth or the early permanent teeth of younger children. For mature permanent teeth, typically seen in older teens or young adults, we recommend completing any desired tooth whitening before placing white fillings. This allows us to match the composite resin to your child’s brightened smile. If the natural teeth change color over time, we can replace the composite resin to maintain a consistent appearance.
